Have your say on changes to health services in Dorset - Now closed

GPs have previously encouraged people living in the New Forest to make sure their voice was heard in a consultation on possible changes to healthcare in neighbouring Dorset.

It started on 1 December 2016, the NHS in Dorset launched a three month consultation on proposals that could see major changes to acute hospital and community care services across Dorset.

The consultation was part of Dorset Clinical Commissioing Group’s (CCG) Clinical Services Review. This proposed changes to the larger hospitals in the county and bringing more care closer to home through the development of community services including new hubs. Some of these proposed changes would affect people living in the west Hampshire area, including:

  • The proposal that the Royal Bournemouth Hospital should become the major emergency hospital.
  • Poole Hospital would become the major planned care hospital with a 24-hour urgent care centre. The urgent care centre would continue to treat the majority of cases that Poole A&E currently sees with the more severe cases being treated at the major emergency hospital in Bournemouth.

These proposals were developed by local doctors, healthcare professionals, and patient groups.

For people living in the New Forest but who regularly use services located in Dorset, we held special public events. At these meetings we provided more details about the proposals and made record of what you said, which we will share with Dorset CCG (who are running the consultation). We will be announcing the dates and locations of these meetings shortly.

A list of where copies of the consultation document can be found is available at www.dorsetsvision.nhs.uk. On the website you will also find an interactive online map which shows what the proposals mean for local healthcare, along with details of local public events where copies of the consultation document – Improving Dorset’s Healthcare – are available.

Anyone who doesn’t have access to the internet can find out where to find a copy of the consultation document and questionnaire by calling 01202 541946.

The three month public consultation on changes proposed in Dorset’s Clinical Services Review (CSR) starts on 1 December 2016 and concludes on 28 February 2017.
